Police-Youth Dialogues Toolkit - Guide for Improving Relationships and Public Safety Through Engagement and Conversation
The challenge of improving relationships between police and teenagers can feel intractable. Young people often associate police only with punishment, while officers may approach young people in ways that contribute to anxiety, even with the best intentions. If youth and police encounter one another solely on the street, this dynamic is difficult to change. This Police-Youth Dialogues Toolkit presents a different way. Police-youth dialogues are facilitated conversations that build trust and understanding by allowing teens and police to speak honestly about their experiences with one another. These dialogues provide windows into the other's point of view, enabling participants to find common ground. The Center for Court Innovation and the U.S. Department of Justice COPS Office developed this toolkit as a resource for communities that wish to implement police-youth dialogues. Drawing from projects across the country that use dialogues, the toolkit consolidates expertise, providing strategies and promising practices.By Center for Court InnovationCategories: Community PartnershipsLanguage: EnglishPublic link
