Vehicular Pursuits: A Guide for Law Enforcement Executives on Managing the Associated Risks
The COPS Office and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) collaborated with the Police Executive Research Forum to develop this resource to help law enforcement agencies manage the risks of conducting and not conducting vehicular pursuits. This guide uses findings from NHTSA research and other credible institutions on crashes and collisions involving police pursuits as well as focus group discussions and review of 48 agencies’ policies to provide safety information and model policies to encourage the development of safer vehicular pursuits.
